Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE)

UAGM Gurabo

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). MSCHE is a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that defines, maintains, and promotes educational excellence across institutions with diverse missions, student populations, and resources. MSCHE conducts accreditation and pre-accreditation (candidacy status) activities for institutions of higher education in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and any other geographic areas in which the Commission elects to conduct accrediting activities, including the evaluation of distance education and correspondence education programs offered at those institutions. MSCHE accredits institutions across the United States as well as globally (MSCHE, 2021).

UAGM Gurabo and the Middle States Self-Study Process

In the fall of 2021, the UAGM Gurabo campus began the self-study process in preparation for reaccreditation, visit and evaluation by MSCHE in the Spring of 2024. The former campus Chancellor, Dr. David Méndez appointed Dr. Jorge Berríos, dean of academic affairs, Prof. Vivian Cordero, director of licensing and accreditations, and Dr. Irma de Pilar Cruz, director of UAGM Ponce, as Self-Study Chair and Co-Chairs.

This process continues under the direction of Prof. Zoraida Ortiz-Muñoz, Vice Chancellor & Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Jorge Berrios, Dean of Academic Affairs and Self-Study Chair, Prof. Wilfredo Chiclana, Director of Licensing and Accreditations, and Prof. Edwin Marrero Rodríguez as Co-chairs.
